Pezula Resort Hotel & Spa

Pezula Resort Hotel & Spa  Knysna, Garden Route, South Africa

Welcome: After a long car journey we pulled up at Pezula and were immediately offered a drink and a friendly smile. The luggage was taken from the car (next to be seen in our room!) and the car taken away and parked. Pure bliss! We were then taken to our room by golf buggy.

Room: The room at Pezula was luxurious, well designed and in my opinion had that 'wow' feeling. The bathroom was spacious with freestanding bath, huge shower and underfloor heating. Loved the Maruwa bathroom amenities which were replaced regularly . The water and wi-fi access were free, always a plus in my book and although the turndown service was good, it did sometimes coincide with us still being in the room...not always ideal. See video above to view the room (studio suite).

Service/Staff: All the staff we came into contact with were friendly, helpful and informative. The concierge was also very patient particularly when we kept changing our horseriding due to inclement weather.

Dining: Although we didn't dine in the main restaurant we were talking to a couple who did and they highly recommended it. We did eat in the lounge which had a reasonable menu and easy atmosphere, as a rule we prefer casual dining on holiday so this was perfect.

Spa: I can't recommend the spa highly enough. I opted for a back massage and my husband (the spa virgin!) decided on a sports massage. Relaxing, professional and enjoyable were the order of the day with no hard sell on products. The pool, sauna and steam room area was small but perfectly formed. My only complaint would be that the outdoor hot tub should have been warmer. Complimentary refreshments were available.

Activities: The activities available at Pezula are numerous. We chose to do a short hike and try out the horse riding. It was very interesting to learn about the history of the Cape horses and the riding was enjoyable if a little tame. The horses were forward going with a lovely nature.

Atmosphere: Unstuffy, friendly and relaxed.

Value: There's no denying that Pezula is expensive but as we travelled in the low season it meant lower rates with a free night and an included spa treatment. Breakfast was also included and for all these reasons I thought it was worth every penny. Food, drink and activities were also reasonably priced.

Conclusion: It was interesting to talk to other South African guests who described Pezula as a magical place and I couldn't disagree with them. I would recommend Pezula to anyone and the fact that my husband now uses it as a yardstick for measuring against tells its own story!
